Purdue’s Forwards

With the graduation of Evan Boudreaux and transfer of Nojel Eastern, the depth in the frontcourt for the Boilermakers has evaporated. They do return junior and leading scorer Trevion Williams who will certainly be a starter and key figure again next year.

They also have redshirt junior Aaron Wheeler who started nine games last season for Purdue with averages of 3.6 PPG and 4.2 RPG. With the lack of depth, Wheeler may have the inside track to the job.

The other forwards include sophomore walk-on Matt Frost who only appeared in nine games last season and freshman redshirt Mason Gillis, who was a three-star recruit recovering from a knee injury in high school.

While I doubt Frost will play a role, I think Gillis will be relied upon to play minutes out of necessity for the Boilermakers.

Overall, I believe Williams and Wheeler will be the starters if Painter decides to go with two forwards with Gillis as the main backup. However due to the limited depth, I believe it’s entirely possible that Painter tries a three-guard, one forward, and one center lineup with Williams starting and Wheeler being the main backup.
