Point Guard

Starter: Terrell Gomez

A Cal State Northridge transfer, 5’8 point guard Terrell Gomez will have some huge shoes to fill in his first season with the Aztecs.

Attempting to replace the 2019-20 Mountain West Player of the Year in Malachi Flynn, Gomez can’t be expected to shoulder that entire responsibility alone and Dutcher has said he doesn’t expect him to have to.

A graduate transfer, Gomez will be immediately eligible next season and has proven he’s good enough to compete with the best in college basketball when given the opportunity.

A star at Cal State-Northridge, Gomez led the Big West Conference last season in points, minutes, field goals made, three-point field goals made & free throw percentage. While he’s no Malachi Flynn, he’ll be just what the Aztecs need next season to remain competitive in a solid Mountain West.

Backup: Lamont Butler Jr.

While Gomez will take the leading role and is expected to play major minutes next season, keep an eye out for Lamont Butler Jr. to make an early impact as a freshman.

A California native from Riverside Poly High School, Butler turned down Harvard, University of Washington and Saint Mary’s to join the Aztecs. A renowned scorer and one of the Top-30 point guards in this year’s recruiting class, he’s one to watch for sure this coming season and could make a big impact scoring the basketball as one of the first off the bench for the Aztecs.
