Virginia Tech Hokies

Biggest needs: Small forward, power forward and center

With four-star freshmen guards Joe Bamisile and Darious Maddox joining the roster, the Hokies have plenty of depth in the backcourt without question. In fact, they could easily do the same four-guard lineups that they did last season. However, that’s not good enough to win in the ACC so adding legit size that doesn’t come from mid-majors should be the only focus for the program.

Virginia Tech probably won’t land top-50 targets in this class but can get some hidden three-star gems. They’re in the running for wing Nate Santos, power forward Ian Schieffelin and center Aston Smith. Landing any frontcourt targets will help balance out the roster and not have to rely on 6’2 guard Tyrece Radford to lead the team in rebounding once again.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Biggest needs: Shooting guard, power forward, and center

First-year head coach Steve Forbes is off to a good start in the 2021 class, adding four-star combo guard Robert McCray. The team will need to add a shooting guard to replace the bevy of grad transfer additions for the upcoming season.

Wake Forest also needs to rebuild its frontcourt after losing so many transfers this offseason, having mainly Isaiah Mucius and Ismael Massoud left on the roster. Three-star forwards Jusaun Holt and Alden Applewhite are in play, along with Micawber Etienne and Sam Ayomide Onu. With plenty of early playing available for whoever commits, expect the Demon Deacons to land a couple of quality impact prospects.

As of now, Florida State and Louisville clearly have done the bulk of the work already, while several other programs still have needs to address. With recruits not waiting for official visits, many of coming off the board before the start of the 2020-21 season. Time will tell whether all 15 programs can fill all of their needs.
