What to expect from Carter Whitt?

Whitt is currently ranked in the top 75 and is No. 63 in the 2021 class. Whitt is ranked in the 2021 class and that was the recruiting class he was originally supposed to be part of; however, with the uncertainty in the world with the Covid-19 pandemic, the guard decided to leave Brewster Academy and reclassify into the 2020 class. Given the state of the world and the aforementioned uncertainty, it makes sense that Whitt would want to stay as close to home as possible.

Watching Whitt play there is no way anyone can consider this anything less than a win for Forbes and the Wake program. Whitt has the ability to be a program changer and with the roster Wake has currently assembled this could change the fortunes of the program in a hurry. Deacon fans are going to fall in love with the point guard quickly he has a game that is easy to like.

Whitt is an athletic kid who has a great basketball IQ, he has the ability to drive the lane, suck the defense to suck inside, and then make an accurate pass to the open player on the perimeter or one who is cutting to the basket. He is also a good offensive player who is able to finish through contact when he is driving to the lane.

The guard sees the floor really well and displays a natural calmness when he is running the offense.  He is able to slow the game and offense down when needed and doesn’t ever appear to be in a rush.

So many times a great player coming out of high school has some defensive deficiencies that hinder their ability to get on the floor. Every coach has said before that they need guys who want to be just intense on the defensive end as they are on the offensive end.

Watching any tape of Whitt, or for those who have seen him play in person, it will show a player who understands his defensive assignment and is quick enough to step into the passing lane for easy steals.

He also has good enough instincts on that end of the floor that he is able to lock a guy down and will get the occasional block just by using his awareness on the floor. He is going to be an absolute steal for Wake and is going to be an All ACC type player quickly.
