Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels have already received a number of exciting backcourt commitments for the 2021 class heightening what could be possible for the program a year from now. 4-star guard James White made his pledge to the team within the last month and immediately brings in perimeter consistency for Kermit Davis to begin rebuilding the program.

However, 4-star point guard commit Daeshun Ruffin is someone Alexander played with this summer and the pair could have built a big enough relationship in that time to play together at the next level.

Going into the 2021 season, Coach Davis will be looking to his young backcourt to help drive the team towards success. Only senior Jarkal Joiner and incoming 2020 freshman Matthew Murrell and Markus Niblack represent the entirety of the team’s backcourt stable at this time. His first priority will be to improve on the team’s poor scoring efficiency and elevate the team’s outlook moving forward, which is an area that Alexander can immediately help the Rebels with.

He is a strong decision-maker and can create a lot of on-court opportunities for the whole team while on the floor. No player on the 2020 roster averaged 2 assists per game and this could be an area where Alexander is able to separate himself from the other guards on the team. His consistency as a scoring threat will be looked to early and often, especially from the perimeter where the team ranked 253rd in the nation last season.

With a decent defensive performance in 2019, the team looks to continue its success on that side of the ball going into 2020. Alexander will not be a liability on that side of the court by any means, but his contributions on both sides of the ball will begin to move the needle for Coach Davis and Ole Miss closer towards conference contention.

The combined talents of Alexander, Ruffin, Murrell, and White provide the program with a lot of immediate and sustainable backcourt talent moving forward to establish a winning identity.
