Big Ten Basketball: Top candidate for a surprise 2020-21 breakout year
By Adam Childs
Potential Big Ten Basketball breakout candidates
Franz Wagner made the All-Big Ten freshman team last year, but got off to a slow start and could make a jump this year, but a lot of people know him.
Trevion Williams made a big jump last year and could make similar jumps this year, but his big games already put him on the map.
Micah Potter for Wisconsin came on to scene late last year and was absolutely deadly from outside. He could definitely make a huge jump as he gets a more prominent role in the offense, but again a lot of people talked about him so he is less of a surprise.
We also looked at Jordan Bohannon from Iowa and Joshua Langford from Michigan State who is both coming off season-ending injuries. In Langford’s case, he has missed most of the last two years. They would be both be surprising All-Big Ten selections, but they have shown the talent before so it isn’t completely crazy to think it could happen.
One player with little fanfare is center Myles Johnson of Rutgers. As a starter last season, he averaged 7.8 ppg and 7.9 rpg and was a key defensive clog inside. Even with most of the roster returning and top-50 big man Cliff Omoruyi arrvining, a breakout campaign for the junior very well could happen as well for the Scarlet Knights.
