San Antonio Spurs – Land Vassell or trade out of the first round

The reason why Vassell is part of these best-case scenarios is that he is the model two-way wing that NBA scouts love. And due to Florida State’s system, we’ve only seen the 6’7 wing’s scoring potential. The odds are slim that he’ll make it to the Spurs at No. 11, which is why I would suggest them trading out of the 1st round and land a future pick.

Whether they want to or not, San Antonio is about to go through a mega rebuild, with most of their veterans’ contracts set to expire after next season. Between giving last year’s pick Keldon Johnson more playing and already having a bunch of young guards, the Spurs would be best to land a big man if Vassell isn’t around. But none of them are great fits, which is why punting on this year is best, which gives them an extra pick and more clarity on who to pick in 2021.

Toronto Raptors – Take either Tyrese Maxey or Malachi Flynn

With Fred VanVleet likely getting a big pay raise elsewhere and Kyle Lowry on the downside of 30, the Raptors are going to need to find the next quality ball-handler. There will be a number of options in the mid-20s, depending on the type of point guard they want to get.

The safer option is Flynn, who already was good at Washington State before being a national star at San Diego State. The Raptors would love to get another former mid-major star on its roster. Or, they can go target Jahmi’us Ramsey of Texas Tech. He’s an outstanding three-point shooter, an area of weakness for Toronto can can play off-ball to Lowry as well.
