2. Creighton Bluejays

The Bluejays leaned heavily on their backcourt in 2019 and came away with a share of their first Big East conference title in program history. The development and emergence of star point guard Marcus Zegarowski was a large reason for the team’s sudden leap in success.

After pouring in 16.1 PPG and shooting 42+% from the perimeter in back-to-back seasons, Zegarowski firmly took control of the team’s leadership and guided the Bluejays to one of their best seasons since the 2013-14 Sweet 16 run.

Despite losing Ty-Shon Alexander (NBA Draft) and Davion Mintz (Kentucky) from last year’s roster, Creighton is still firmly in the thick of the Big East title race. Zegarowski and sharpshooter Mitch Ballock will again anchor the backcourt and lead one of the deadliest perimeter shooting teams in the nation.

Duke transfer Alex O’Connell and international freshman Rati Andronikashvilli will bolster the dangerous duo, while Damian Jefferson and Antwann Jones anchor the wings. The frontcourt depth for the Bluejays has been restored with the signing of Ryan Kalkbrenner and the return of Jacob Epperson from injury to accompany Christian Bishop.

If the Bluejays rotation can quickly get up to speed alongside Zegarowski and Ballock, this team could again reach the top ranks of college basketball.
