Why you should know Douglas Wilson of South Dakota State

The senior big man enters his second year with the Jackrabbits as the reigning Summit League Player of the year. Anyone who followed the career of the big man before he arrived at South Dakota State would not be surprised by those numbers. He started his career at Kirkwood Community College and while he was at Kirkwood he a two-time JUCO All-American and was able to help lead his team to a JUCO National Title.

One word to describe Wilson on the offensive end would be efficient. The big man has shot over 60% from the floor every year he has played in College. His freshman year in JUCO he shot 69% from the floor and last year his first year of division one basketball he shot 63% from the floor. The Big man is a throwback and gets all of his points inside the three-point line. The senior scores most of his points in the low block and he is one of the best low post players in the country.

Wilson may have only averaged a tad over six rebounds per game a season ago but he has the ability to gather rebounds quickly. He had some huge rebounding games last year and some of them came against the biggest teams the Jackrabbits had on the schedule.

In a loss to Nebraska a season ago, Wilson grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. Nebraska was not a great rebounding team but Wilson dominated down low in that game and he has a keen ability for getting rebounds. When watching Wilson you will see a player who gives maximum effort and can take over a game quickly. The senior is looking to become the first back to back Player of the Year winner in the Summit since Mike Daum.
