Starters for Georgetown Basketball

As young as the current Georgetown team is, they will look to lean on the limited veteran presence they have on the roster to fill out their starting lineup. According to Rotowire, the projected starting lineup for the Hoyas, is as follows: Jalen Harris (G), Don Carey (G), Jahvon Blair (SF), Jamorko Pickett (PF), and Qudus Wahab (C).

The backcourt will be manned by two proven guards who have shown they can contribute at the college level. Harris played two years at Arkansas and was featured as their 6th man in the previous season. A steady hand in the backcourt, Harris was relegated to a bench role in his second season with the Razorbacks.

Despite this, Harris has a proven track record of being able to command the offense for 30+ minutes a game as he was the starter for all 34 of Arkansas games during the 18-19 season. With this experience running the offense the Hoyas can hope to mitigate turnovers and play team basketball with no true star in their starting lineup.

Harris’ counterpart, Donald Carey, averaging 11.3 ppg, transferred from Siena for his graduate year and should help cushion the blow of losing the scoring punch Mac McClung.

In the frontcourt, the Hoyas will find familiar faces with seniors Jahvon Blair, Jamorko Pickett, and Qudus Wahab. Wahab, a sophomore, will be challenged to take on a major role in only his second season. Luckily during his freshman year, Wahab contributed around fifteen minutes off the bench producing a promising 5.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 32 games with seven starts.

Wahab has big shoes to fill taking over for Yurtseven, who averaged close to a double-double last season with 15.5 ppg and 9.8 rpg. It is unlikely that the young sophomore Wahab will be able to mirror this type of production in his first year as the starter but if he can marginally increase his averages it will help take the pressure off Georgetown’s young bench and make it easier for Blair and Pickett to elevate the team to unexpected heights.

It is important to note that even though the three starters mentioned above will be important to the overall success of the Hoyas in the 20-21 season, this team will only go as far as Blair and Pickett take them. They are the most experienced members of the team and have the most experience within Ewing’s system.

Even in a season featuring massive departures, the juniors at the time stayed with the team and both found success in the starting lineup. One year older, they will need to substantially increase their contribution to help make Georgetown competitive next year.
