Bench

Due to the youth of the 20-21 Hoyas, it is hard to get a clear picture of what exactly the team has coming off the bench. When you have a large crop of freshmen, initially, it may be hard to get a grasp on who works well together and how the back of the rotation should shake out. With that being said, it would not be a surprise if the prominent players coming off the bench included Jamari Sibley (PF), Kobe Clark (G), Timothy Ighoefe (C).

As mentioned above, Ewing will be using more than these three players off the bench this year and will be more active in changing rotations at the beginning of the season, trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Overall though, these three players will be the most prominently featured off the bench.

Timothy Ighoefe is another sophomore center familiar with the program. Last year, Ighoefe was only featured in 12 games and is the clear backup to Wahab in the upcoming season. As the consistency in his minutes’ increases, the hope for Ighoefe in the upcoming season should be to build on his production in a limited capacity last year and increase it in his expanded role.

Malcolm Wilson will round out the center position but he saw no playing time last year and may only make appearances when other players are experiencing foul trouble.

The youth on the roster has been mentioned and, from the bench, finally has a chance to shine. Kobe Clark and Jamari Sibley, both freshman recruits, are poised to become contributors to the team during game one. Sibley will most likely fit into the 6th man role backing up senior Pickett but could ascend to the starting lineup late in the season depending on his performance throughout the year.

Both of these young players will have the opportunity to learn and grow in the system which will help establish the building blocks of the program’s future. Dante Harris was their other recruit of the 2020 class but may see less playing time than his counterparts due to the experience in front of him.

As the bench is clouded in uncertainty in comparison to the starting lineup, it is clear that at the very least Ewing has a competitive eight-man rotation that should be able to keep the program in games inside and outside of the conference. Based on the youth coming off the bench the possibility of fluctuating minutes for players outside this eight-man rotation is high which makes it harder to project what the final product will look like for Ewing and his staff.
