Losers: Virginia Cavaliers

It looked like the Virginia Cavaliers were onto something in their opening game of the season that saw them score 89 points, the most points they’ve scored in a game since they put up 97 against Coppin State back on November 16, 2018.

In their debut games for the Cavaliers, Sam Hauser and Trey Murphy III combined for 40 points and nine made 3-pointers. Hauser posted 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists while Murphy posted 21 points along with six made 3-pointers.

Things turned in the opposite direction against the San Francisco Dons. Murphy didn’t make any 3-pointers and finished with just four points. Hauser had 10 points and six rebounds, but he was a lot less effective from the 3-point line as well, going 0-for-3. As a team, they shot 3-of-12 from the 3-point range as well.

It’s early for the Cavaliers but they’re looking for offense already, even with experience on the floor with Hauser and Murphy. It also didn’t help they had just five assists as a team against the Dons. As they learn to play together and find their groove, look for them to recover in a hurry or it could be a long season for them.
