Bench production is up, so far for Winthrop

One thing head coach Pat Kelsey wasn’t shy about was rotating his fair share of players in and out of the game. As a result, the Winthrop Eagles got a strong showing from their bench in their victory over UNC-Greensboro.

They outscored the Spartans 37-20 in bench points led by the play of Adonis Arms, Kelton Talford, and Jamal King. Arms led the way off the bench with 14 points, going 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Talford had a strong debut as a freshman with 12 points and King showed off his prowess on the 3-point line with two made 3-pointers and eight points.

The Eagles’ ability to spread the ball around on offense and find each other in easy positions to score ultimately led them to a victory. It also helps the trio combined for 13 rebounds as well.

In a game where every possession counts, Winthrop looks to be in better shape than most. They also shot 6-of-15 (40 percent) from 3-point range while UNC-Greensboro was 7-of-29 (24.1 percent).
