Big 12 Basketball: 2020-21 Buy or Sell Baylor, Kansas, West Virginia and others

West Virginia – SELL
The Mountaineers in this category may spark some debate, but losing big man Oscar Tshiebwe knocks them down a tier in their ceiling this season. I considered West Virginia as a contender in the Big 12 and potentially the National Championship before Tshiebwe’s departure. I now cap them as an Elite 8 or Sweet 16 team.
Losing Tshiebwe does not mean that they are not a good team and their season is over, it just means they will have to have guys step up and change the way they play. Derek Culver and Miles McBride have emerged as the premier scorers for the Mountaineers, but Kedrian Johnson is earning more minutes due to his defensive effort, as well as Taz Sherman contributing to the scoring effort.
Bob Huggins knows the defense will have to be more of a focus of the Mountaineers want to maintain their national ranking. West Virginia is by no means out of the picture, especially once they get 4-star freshman Isaiah Cotrell back from injury, but thier National Championship Dreams have darkened and for the time being, sell your stock in West Virginia
TCU – SELL
The Horned Frogs entered Big 12 play as sleepers, with close losses to Oklahoma and Providence early on in the season. They entered Tuesday’s game agianst Kansas with a real opportunity to improve to 3-1 in Big 12 play and turn some heads.
Instead, they were completely blown out of the gym by Kansas, who was coming off of the biggest home conference loss in program history. The Horned Frogs dropped to 2-2 in the Big 12 and showed that they did not belong with the upper echelon of teams in the conference. 7 of their next 9 games are against ranked teams, and TCU better hope that their tournament aspirations are not crushed after that stretch.
I predict they will go 3-6 in their next nine, putting them at 12-9 and on the bubble watch. If you had stock in TCU, it would be wise to sell it now before this brutal stretch.
