Jaden Springer: No. 13 RSCI / No. 12 currently

First on the list is No. 13 on the RSCI, Jaden Springer, who is logging the fewest minutes per game among the top recruits while averaging ten points per game. Springer is one of the two freshmen who come off the bench to backup Head Coach Rick Barnes’ solid starting backcourt. Springer is maintaining the shooting guard role that he performed so successfully at IMG Academy.

Despite connecting on over half his field-goal attempts, going forward there will continue to be a ceiling on Springer’s minutes as Tennessee Basketball’s leading scorer Victor Bailey (13.4 ppg) will only see his 26 minutes per game increase as games get more important. As recently as the game on Jan. 5, 2020, when Bailey played 23 minutes off the bench it was Keon Johnson who started. It has been established that Springer will be coming off the bench, but will be none-the-less important.

Springer is in a virtual tie for field goals attempted for non-starters and is second, only to Johnson, on the team in usage percentage. The 6’4 guard has not and will not be making as many waves as the players later on, but he is in a great position to contribute to a top-10 team and get a lot of meaningful minutes that will aid him as of March approaches and he prepares for the increased role he will have in the Volunteers’ backcourt next season.
