If Fordham bucks the trend of hiring head coaches from lower schools, then there will be a great number of candidates float to the top of the search, especially those with familiarity with Fordham or New York as a whole. As someone who’s spent their entire basketball career in New Jersey, Billmeier is one of those candidates who can certainly find and pluck talent into this Fordham team.

Billmeier played his college basketball for Seton Hall before eventually joining Kevin Willard’s staff as an assistant back in 2010. He also spent some time playing basketball professionally overseas and running basketball camps. He briefly served as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson during the 2014-15 season, only strengthening his familiarity with recruiting the New Jersey and New York area.

Seton Hall has some fantastic assistant coaches that have helped Willard push the program into Big East contention, and Billmeier has certainly earned the chance to run his own program. As he’s never been a head coach, there’s always concern about how he’d handle running his own program, but that shouldn’t concern Fordham. Billmeier is one of the best assistant coaches in the Big East and will make a fine collegiate head coach someday soon.
