Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Oklahoma climbs after SEC invasion
By Andrew Tineo
Previous games: 51-59 loss at. No. 15 Kansas, 98-102 loss at. No. 12 Missouri.
Next games: Wednesday vs. Oklahoma State, Saturday at. No.2 Baylor.
Regardless of the outcomes, TCU played two different styles over the week and nearly beat some good teams with those. The Horned Frogs lost a slugfest in Lawrence, where the offense could not hit the big shot when they needed to.
Freshman Mike Miles is starting to grow into the leading producer. He added 18 points and four rebounds on six of 12 shooting from the field. The rest of the team, however, shot a combined 13-42, good for 30 percent.
On Saturday, TCU traveled to play Missouri and got a barnburner out of the Tigers. Miles continued to carry the load on offense as he finished with 28 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds and five assists to zero turnovers.
The Horned Frogs also got good play from Chuck O’Bannon Jr. with his 17 and RJ Nembhard with 15. TCU could not stop the duo of Jeremiah Tilmon and Xavier Pinson, as they both eclipsed 30 points. Pinson’s 36 is a career-high, as well as, Tilmon’s 33.
TCU is a good team, and Miles’ progression is coming along great for the long-term hope of the program. Others like Kevin Samuel and Nembhard are graduating and their production has started to slip.
Even with the close losses, TCU does not move up and will need a few upset wins to make noise within the conference.
