Baylor Basketball: 5 teams that can beat the Bears in 2020-21 season
By Andrew Tineo
Kansas is through one of the worst seasons in over a decade and has dropped out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2009. Lack of consistent offense and a rim protector has become a letdown for the Jayhawks as they slid to fifth in the conference standings.
Even with that, I believe Kansas could give Baylor some issues. When the Jayhawks are clicking, they’re a Top 15 team in the country. In the first matchup against the Bears, Kansas never let Baylor get too far ahead and kept them in decent striking distance.
With seven minutes left in the game, Kansas would go on a 9-0 run to cut the Baylor lead to just five.
The Jayhawks shot well against Baylor, hitting 10 of their 19 three-pointers and forced 18 turnovers. However, Kansas could not contain Jared Butler, as he had 30 points on 7-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
When David McCormack is consistent from the field, he is playing like an All-Big 12 player. Unfortunately, the inconsistent play has been his downfall this year. That hasn’t been the case as of late, with double-doubles in two of the last three games.
He is a perfect 100 percent on the season with three-pointers and can be a difference breaker, when on his game. Kansas has the ingredients to be a threat to Baylor but was too inconsistent in Waco.
If the Jayhawks played up to their potential, it would be bizarre if they upset the Bears in Lawrence, a place Baylor has only won in once (2020).
