The Gaels, a defensively sound team, had one matchup this week against the best team in the nation; Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Gaels have only allowed 63.2 points per game this year which puts them 26th best in the nation out of 347 teams. However, the Bulldogs do not give a crap about statistics. Gonzaga poured in 87 points on its way to a 22 point route.

Saint Mary’s will host two conference opponents at home this week; Pepperdine and Pacific. This is the time where we find out which teams have heart and want to continue to compete despite prospects of the future being dim. Saint Mary’s has a chance to play spoiler in the last game of the season at BYU. A win to BYU could have seeding implications.

7. San Francisco Dons (10-11, 4-7)

San Francisco had quite a week facing off against two of the better teams in the West Coast Conference. Like many teams before them, the Dons ran into Gonzaga and were dispatched quickly by the Bulldogs. They followed up the Gonzaga game with a home contest against Loyola Marymount. The Dons lost by eight despite being up by eight points at the end of the first half.

Their second half was pedestrian at best and the Dons were outscored by 13 in the second half. Jamaree Bouyea led the way for the Dons playing a team-high 40 minutes and shooting 11-26 from the field including an insane 12 3-point attempts. Bouyea was ready to shoot his shot against Loyola and he definitely did. Bouyea ended the loss with 33 points.

The Dons will conclude their season this week with away contests at Brigham Young and Pacific University.
