13. George Washington Colonials
- 2020-21 record: 4-11 overall, 3-5 A-10
- Previous ranking: 12th
The biggest positive for George Washington: they are actually playing again. When the last rankings were published, the Colonials were in the midst of a COVID-19 pause that postponed a stretch of games from January 20th all the way to February 17th.
To add to the positives, the Colonials – who had played just four games in the 2021 calendar year prior to resuming – won their first game back, toppling Rhode Island in a 78-70 triumph. That game saw the trio of James Bishop, Jamison Battle, and Ricky Lindo Jr. go off for career-best performances, combining for 65 points on 23-37 shooting – including 8-15 from the perimeter – to close the game on a 15-2 run.
It has not necessarily been as pleasant for George Washington since then, however. The Colonials came crashing back down to earth days later, falling on the road to George Mason before getting blown out at St. Bonaventure by 47. Jamion Christian’s squad will now enter the A-10 Tournament seeded 11th.
If it is any consolation for George Washington, they get to take on a Fordham squad in the opening round that they already defeated earlier on in the season by 24 – and, if they win, get another shot against a George Mason team that they lost to by just five last week.
