Why Texas Tech basketball could hire Mark Adams
We’ve ordered the candidates alphabetically, so it’s just a complete coincidence that one of the very best candidates will be studied first. Texas Tech is probably looking for someone with head coaching experience, and a direct connection to the university doesn’t hurt. With what he’s done for the Red Raiders in recent years, Adams is a perfect candidate.
A great teacher of defense, Adams is a former longtime collegiate head coach, spending time at various non-D1 universities as well as Texas-Pan American back in the 90’s. A former director of basketball operations with the Red Raiders, he spent time on Beard’s staffs at both Little Rock and Texas Tech, helping turn their defense into one of the best in the nation.
Adams has a lot of experience as a head coach and has certainly made his mark on the defensive side of the ball with the Red Raiders. It’s fair to wonder if Texas Tech will give the reins to someone like Adams, especially since much of his coaching experience has come at much smaller schools. Still, they can’t go wrong with bringing back someone who’s helped build this program to heights never before seen.
