Duke, Alabama, and Marquette among options for transfer Noah Gurley
How Noah Gurley fits with the San Diego State Aztecs
The reigning Mountain West champions has been led through its backcourt for the past few years. But with Terrell Gomez, Matt Mitchell, and Jordan Schakel (top three scorers from this past season) all leaving, there’s now a huge need for San Diego State to find talent that can score, while still playing defense at a good level.
Compared to some of the other options, Gurley could step in and be a top offensive option for the Aztecs. And the Mountain West isn’t a large jump from the SoCon, so the risk of not playing much at his new stop wouldn’t be there for him. And plus, Gurley and center Nathan Mensah could play effectively together on the court.
How Noah Gurley fits with the Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols recently landed Auburn guard transfer Justin Powell, who along with incoming five-star freshman guard Kennedy Chandler. Tennessee will be just fine in the backcourt but have been looking to improve on the frontcourt for the upcoming season. John Fulkerson and Yves Pons are both seniors and the signs aren’t there that they’ll return.
Outside of Uroš Plavšić, the Vols don’t have much frontcourt depth. And after missing out on Georgetown transfer center Qudus Wahab, they’ll be hoping to land Gurley to provide at least some depth but potentially a starter. Tennessee will hope that he has more of an impact than EJ Anoskie did.
With Alabama and Auburn also on the list, this will be important for the Vols to land Noah Gurley and prevent them from doing so. His decision could have a huge impact on the SEC pecking order for the 2021-22 season. But don’t overlook San Diego State out west, who offers a compelling role and amount of playing time as well.
