NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Texas Tech transfer Mac McClung
Texas Longhorns
The connection was always going to be there and questions were always going to be asked however after a flurry of moves on Tuesday from Texas the fit seems unlikely now.
Chris Beard has landed Utah transfer Timmy Allen and Devin Askew likely signaling that McClung will not be joining his former head coach in Austin. It’s unlikely that after bringing in a volume scorer like Allen that Beard would also add in McClung. With how quickly these moves transpired it would be a surprise if McClung still found his way to Texas next season.
USC Trojans
After a successful season and the likely departures of the Mobley brothers (Evan for sure), USC is in need of a reload for next season. Tahj Eaddy has already declared for the draft signaling the need for a primary ball-handler for the Trojans and backcourt reinforcements.
With the Trojans being on McClung’s final list of seven last offseason it’s likely they’ll be back in the hunt again. With Goodwin coming back as well as Drew Peterson there is definitely a solid core. McClung would certainly be a big boost for a team that already is shaping up to be a tournament team.
USC just got a commitment from Memphis guard Boogie Ellis however that shouldn’t be enough to totally rule out McClung. Peterson can easily play out on the wing allowing all three to be out on the court at the same time.
