NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 4 finalists for Georgia transfer Sahvir Wheeler
By Matt Melton
Kansas Jayhawks
Arguably one of the most intriguing options for Wheeler to land at based on playstyle alone is at Kansas. The Jayhawks have had notable guards in recent years with similar play styles to Wheeler such as Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham have success, could he be next?
If Wheeler truly wants to play for a national championship contender and to make it to a Final Four, Kansas might be the destination. Aside from the cancelled 2020 NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks have made “The Big Dance” in every season since 1988-89 reaching seven Final Four’s during that span.
Kansas and head coach Bill Self will once again return a roster capable of making it that far once again next season. Looking at the backcourt, in particular, the Jayhawks have lost a few notable players to the transfer portal from last season, but are also bringing in a wealth of talent across their roster.
The Kansas backcourt next season will be highlighted by Drake transfer Joseph Yesufu, the returning Christian Braun, and incoming 4-star guards Bobby Pettiford and Kyle Cuffe Jr. Combine those with potential returns of Ochai Agbaji and Marcus Garrett, as well as a potential addition of Wheeler and Kansas would arguably have the most loaded backcourt in the Big 12.
A potential addition of Wheeler would give Kansas yet another experienced and proven guard to lead their offense. Would a potential decision of Garrett, in particular, play a role however? Regardless, this is a transfer destination that makes a lot of sense for both sides.
