Duke Blue Devils

Despite losing out on five-star wing prospect Patrick Baldwin Jr. for the upcoming season, the Blue Devils still have one on the roster in top-10 recruit AJ Griffin. He’s almost assuredly gone after next year, leaving the small forward starting spot open for 2022-23. The Blue Devils are the perfect spot for “one and done” prospects and Coach K has sent numerous players to the NBA Draft.

But there’s also a real chance that Duke will have to replace its entire starting lineup for next season, potentially adding a few transfers to reload the roster. If Mitchell is going to be one of the earlier top players to decide, he won’t know who he’ll be playing. At the same time though, an early commitment to the Blue Devils allows Mitchell to start recruiting other key players he’d want to play with.

Kansas Jayhawks

Coming off recently celebrating the pickup of Arizona State transfer Remy Martin, the Jayhawks are looking to get back to landing local prospects, something they actually struggled to do so this past recruiting class. It’ll be tough with the alleged recruiting violations and possible sanctions still hanging over them but recent decisions to both USC and Oklahoma State make it seem as if Kansas could avoid a future postseason ban.

If that’s the case, Mitchell could very well stay home and take over the wing spot since Ochai Agbaji would definitely be gone. Sharpshooter Christian Braun can slide over to the two-spot, while top-100 class of 2022 wing Gradey Dick can come off the bench and slowly develop. Smith can come in and have a similar pathway as Josh Jackson, a former Jayhawk five-star wing that ended up as a top-5 NBA Draft pick.
