Minnesota Golden Gophers

Not only are the Gophers the “hometown” option for Garcia, but they also have a completely new coaching staff, led by first-year head coach Ben Johnson. It’s also a completely new roster after so many incoming and outgoing transfers. In the frontcourt in particular lies JUCO transfer Charlie Daniels, D-II transfer Parker Fox, and Isaiah Ihnen. Four-star center prospect Treyton Thompson is the projected starter but he may ultimately be not ready for big minutes out of the gate.

Garcia would have the opportunity to come back home and be the clear No. 1 option on offense and put up some big stats. They probably still wouldn’t be good enough to make the NCAA Tournament but in the new world of Name, Image, and Likeness, the Marquette transfer could benefit tremendously off the court if he’s staying just one more year in college.

USC Trojans

Even if Isaiah Mobley comes back from the NBA Draft, his brother and last season’s star big man Evan Mobley certainly isn’t. And the Trojans have yet to replace him and his production from the frontcourt. Right now, the starting center could be Isaiah, unless Joshua Morgan finds a way to earn extra minutes.

Garcia isn’t as good as Evan Mobley but he’s as good a replacement as possible, as his game would fit the Trojans system. And this is a coaching staff that has done well with big men becoming eventual NBA Draft picks and this spot would allow the Marquette transfer to have a sizeable role. He and Isaiah would be a nice frontcourt to compete in the Pac-12 with.
