Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini is an intriguing option because there either is plenty of potential playing time for Whitmore in the future or none at all. This program has three incoming freshmen in Luke Goode,  Brandin Podziemski, and Ramses Melendez, all of who are 6’5 or 6’6 and capable of playing at the small forward position. And Illinois also has Reggie Bass and Sencire Harris part of the 2022 class, two off-guards.

Whitmore is a true power forward whose size and rebounding may give him an edge. But if any of those five mentioned players break out and the Illini continues to use three-guards lineups, there will be plenty of competition. It also will be interesting to see the relationship Whitmore builds with the entire staff, including the three new assistant coaches.

Louisville Cardinals

The Cardinals are already fairly set at the wing position with Samuell Williamson, who led the team in rebounding last season, as well as four-star freshman Michael James. And the team also has a four-star commit in the 2022 class in De’Ante Davis, a 6’5 wing that isn’t as great a scorer as Whitmore but is considered a more all-around player at the high school level.

Louisville’s roster is going through some changes, currently without a dynamic scorer. Without Carlik Jones around, next season will be more the collective than just a single piece. If Williamson leaves after his junior season, there would be some room for Whitmore to have an early impact and the team may need his scoring production. However, James emerging as a freshman could create a barrier for this prospect.
