Miami Hurricanes

There is a lot of guards on the roster for the Hurricanes, led by senior transfer Charlie Moore and rising junior Isaiah Wong. There’s also 6’5 double-digit scoring guard Kameron McGusty who elected to take the extra year, along with another senior transfer in Jordan Miller from George Mason. All of them could very likely leave after next season, signaling a total rebuild of the roster.

That would be very beneficial for Whitmore in terms of getting maximum playing time and being a potential early focal point of the offense. But it’s not certain that head coach Jim Larranaga, who’ll be 73 years old when Whitmore arrives, will be long for the job. That level of uncertainty, combined with the prospect of the Hurricanes struggling after losing so much talent potentially, could make this a somewhat unappealing option.

Maryland Terrapins

The other potential hometown option for Whitmore, the Terrapins also has the wing position open for the future. Aaron Wiggins already has departed for the pros, while Eric Ayala will likely be gone after next season. This is a scenario where once Fatts Russell departs a year from now, there will be a need for some scoring production and Whitmore may be the best prospect this program can reasonably land.

Maryland does have Ike Cornish and James Graham on the roster but neither is projected to be elite offensive weapons as Whitmore can be. Seeing Ayaya and Wiggins develop into 15 ppg scorers and now NBA prospects is a key selling point from this coaching staff to this top-50 wing and if staying at home is a factor, could be in this recruiting process all the way to the end.
