NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 10 options for Oral Roberts transfer Kevin Obanor
8. Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats recently missed out on Marquette transfer forward Dawson Garcia but could get Obanor instead, who may be a better fit in the frontcourt. He, Ąžuolas Tubelis, and Bennedict Mathurin would form one of the top trios in the country, and even with some concerns with the backcourt, could be top-25 good next season.
But that’s the best-case scenario. First-time head coach Tommy Lloyd is unproven, which makes that a risk in itself for Obanor. And if Mathurin and Tubelis do take a big step forward, this transfer forward could end up being a role player that puts up around 8-10 ppg. Only due to there being “safer” options on this list, Arizona falls a bit in the back.
7. Creighton Bluejays
The Bluejays have rebuilt its entire roster this offseason, including adding multiple top-100 prospects to have a top-5 recruiting class. That includes stretch forward Mason Miller and big man Arthur Kaluma, D-II transfer Ryan Hawkins, as well as McNeese State transfer KeyShawn Feazell.
This is an option that on paper makes sense in that Creighton adds some experience and proven production and Obanor makes them better and more likely to make the NCAA Tournament. What he also does is take 30 mpg away from some of the younger forwards and keeps them on the bench, making them more likely to potentially transfer next offseason. This is a core that could be real good in a couple of years so is it really worth the risk or 2-3 more wins to add a one-year rental in Obanor? The Bluejays may be better off in the long run to just hold steady.
