Kansas Basketball: Why Remy Martin can win 2021-22 Big 12 Player of the Year
By Andrew Tineo
An unorthodox shot that works
When turning on the game tape, one of the first things that stand out is his shot. Although not a bad-looking shot, just one that is unusual and makes some people crease when having a first impression.
The hitch in his shot seems like his release is late and almost like he’s going to do a last-second pass. Martin finishes the shot, with his left leg first, which is unusual for someone that is right-handed It’s a straight-line shot, but has its success.
He’s a career 48% from the field and has been a respectable 33.6% career three-point shooter.
His shot doesn’t affect his range either, as Martin can drill it from any part of the floor, even from 30+ feet out.
Almost as more impressive, his range is his ability to hit the mid-range shot. Even standing at six foot even, his ability to get high on his jump shot, elevates him to get enough space and vision, to knock down any mid-range shots. He does it at a high volume as well.
Martin has gotten hype ever since the near end of his freshman season and it has been warranted. The lack of team success has put Martin in the backseat in the College Basketball landscape.
However, with a fresh new start in Lawrence, his shot-making ability will be put on display, for the national audience to see.
