Big 12 Basketball: Analyzing top prospect for each team in 2022 recruiting class
By Andrew Tineo
Nick Smith (No. 4 CG, No. 27 overall)
Team: Oklahoma
The Sooners landed one of the best guards in the Dallas-Fort Worth area a recruiting class ago, with Duncanville guard C.J Noland heading to Norman.
This time, the Sooners are aiming for the No.1 guard in the state of Arkansas, in Nick Smith. The Sooners are not the only team in the sweepstakes, with Kansas, Kentucky, Alabama, and Arkansas also in the mix.
However, the Sooners will be able to get Smith on campus, from September 17-19. Although a new coach is in town, Oklahoma can preach star-level guard play, as Buddy Hield and Trae Young have paved the way for that.
Smith Jr. has an uncanny ability to score the ball and stands near 6-foot-5 in height. He upped his level in his game over the summer, prior to his injury, which has set him back a bit.
Smith will also make his return to the court and the Sooners are expected to be in attendance.
Smith will await his decision till the beginning of the season, with his commitment date pegged for November, 20.
The lone prediction put in for Smith is Kentucky, but this recruitment is far from over. With his final visit being in the middle of October, Smith should not have a decision for quite some time. With Oklahoma having one of the later visits, shows they will be one of the last teams Smith visits, before his decision.
Although the Sooners are not the favorites, itβs not a long shot of a get. I believe he ends up in the SEC, but if he sticks in the Big 12, Oklahoma is the favorite to get him.
Prediction: Arkansas
