NCAA Basketball: How Keyonte George can impact each team in his top 5
By Andrew Tineo
Baylor Bears
The Bears are coming off a National Championship and the recruiting success has become apparent. Baylor is coming off a top 10 class in 2021 and has a four-star guard in the 2022 class in Dillon Hunter.
Baylor brought in guard James Akinjo from Arizona to play for the 2021-2022 season, his lone year of eligibility. With the future of the guard position, it is unclear whether Adam Flagler will still be on the roster, come a year from now.
The Bears have two underclassmen waiting in the arms in sophomore LJ Cryer and former top-40 recruit Langston Love, expected to get playing time off the bench this season.
However, Baylor did land Division-II guard Dale Bonner from Fairmont State, who averaged 21.1 points per game and 4.5 assists on 43% shooting from beyond the arc in 2020-2021.
George has intangibles similar to Davion Mitchell but misses the explosion and elite defense that Mitchell possesses. They both have similar frames, at Six-foot-four and aggressive off-ball guards.
In Scott Drew’s system, he has flourished with guards, especially last season with the trio of Mitchell, Jared Butler, and MaCio Teague.
If Cryer continues to stay on the roster, he can be the point guard that can be beside George and make Baylor one of the deepest backcourts in the country.
