. . Bulldogs . 3. team. 541.

There can be an argument of who the best big man was last season but the most famous (outside of Luka Garza) was Drew Timme, the leading scorer, and rebounder for the one-loss Gonzaga Bulldogs. The sophomore breakout star averaged 19.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg, while shooting a ridiculous 65% from the field. He had at least nine points in every game last season, including a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds against Oklahoma in the NCAA Tournament.

Timme and his mustache are back but somehow have been overshadowed by his new teammate, No. 1 overall freshman prospect Chet Holmgren. He’s a 7’1 forward that plays face-up to the basket, can shoot well from the perimeter, and handles the ball like a guard. And yet he may be an even better defender and shot-blocker.

The duo of Timme and Holmgren is tough enough but forward Anton Watson is back too. He started 17 games last season and is known for being a quality defender but also had a couple of games of 20+ points as well. Then there are freshmen Ben Gregg and Kaden Perry, two top-60 recruits that will provide even more depth if there’s playing time available.

The only reason why the Bulldogs aren’t higher than No. 3 is the lack of proven depth but if Holmgren is as good as advertised, look for them to have another 30+ win season and Sweet 16 appearance in 2022.
