Atlantic 10 Basketball: Analyzing Duquesne Dukes 2021 recruiting class
2. Tre Williams, Reynoldsburg (OH)
The 6-7, 250-pound center is an experienced center that transferred from Indiana State. He is a strong scorer around the rim as well as an outstanding rim protector, earning a spot on the All-Missouri Valley Conference Defensive team this past season. Williams is also a good offensive rebounder but struggles at the foul line.
He did show improvement in year two with the Sycamores overall — producing 8.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while knocking down 53.2% of his field-goal attempts. Williams has scored in double-figures in 20 of his 55 career appearances and has registered double-digit rebounds on two occasions.
1. Kevin Easley,
Indianapolis (Ind)
The former 3+ star recruit comes to “the Bluff” from TCU via Chattanooga.
Easley, who has appeared in 56 career collegiate games, averaged 4.3 points along with 3.5 boards in 20 minutes for the Horned Frogs this past season. For his career, the 6-7 forward has scored in double-figures 25 times, topping the 20-point mark on seven occasions, and has grabbed double-figure boards 10 times.
Bottom Line: Dambrot did an outstanding job bringing in a lot of experience which is what the Dukes need, after all the departures, if they are going to be competitive this upcoming season. I expect Easley to be the star of the recruiting class although Johnson could push for that moniker if he is capable of scoring as he did in high school. Williams will likely start at the 5 and Gunn and Ayers will be counted on to contribute a lot as well, either as starters or as the first guys off the bench. Spears will also likely see some time.
B to B- as Dambrot, who has one more scholarship for 2021 available, will rely on several of these newcomers and while I believe that they will get production there are still some questions as to how much.
