NCAA Basketball: 12 potential milestones to watch for 2021-22 season
Antoine Davis – Detroit Mercy
Milestone: 900 made field goals
Unlike LMFAO’s 2009 single, the shots will not be for everybody. When it comes to contests including Detroit Mercy, Antoine Davis will be the one taking the lion’s share. Davis attempted over 19 shots per game, which is over seven more shots the 6’1 guard attempted than Bul Kuol.
Despite shooting under 43 percent from the field he put up 420 shots in 22 games, a far cry from the 657 he put up in 30 games as a freshman. With those numbers, it is no surprise that Davis currently sits at 678 made field goals and that total will only increase during the 2021-22 season.
Needless to say, the more shots he takes, the more shots can go in and there will be plenty of shots to take. With seniors, Bul Kuol (11.8 fga) and Marquell Fraser (5.7 fga) departing, Davis’ shooting percentage will not improve as the defense will be more aware than ever, but Davis will get more shots.
Despite never having a 30 shot attempt game, Davis has had fifty-four games where he has shot twenty or more field goals and has never – during his 82 career games – attempted fewer than twelve in a game. An interesting tidbit, Northern Kentucky has held him to three of his four lowest shot attempt totals.
Davis is not just 222 field goals made shy of 900, he is 244 made field goals from passing Hershey Hawkins to enter the top 20 most field goals made since the 1985-86 season. Regardless of his percentage, regardless if 900 is not as impressive as 1,000 whenever you are able to surpass Hershey Hawkins, it is a journey to a milestone worth watching.
