Florida Gators get their 2022 class started with commitment from Malik Reneau

Consensus top-100 class of 2022 prospect Malik Reneu decided that central Florida is the best place in the state to play for him as he committed to the Florida Gators on Wednesday. The South Florida product chose the Gators over Florida State, Miami, and Memphis, among others.

“I chose Florida because of the relationship I built over time with them,” Reneau told 247Sports.

"“They’ve been recruiting me since the beginning of my sophomore year, and I have a great relationship with coach White and all the assistant coaches. I also really liked the way they want to play me as a versatile four who can play inside out, come off pick and rolls, and pick and pops.”"

The 6-8 forward had a limited role for Monteverde this past season as the Eagles were very talented and experienced in the frontcourt. However, Reneau showed out during the summer with the Nightdrys Elite as he averaged 17.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while adding 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks during 12 games on the Nike EYBL circuit.

Reneau is a consensus 4-star recruit who is ranked the No. 43 prospect in the nation by 247Sports Composite and No. 84 by 247Sports. ESPN has the Hialeah Gardens native at No. 23, and Rivals lists him at No. 24. The following is a scouting report from Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports.

"“Reneau is a southpaw four-man with a solid build, great hands, and an equally impressive feel for the game, He is a team-oriented player who compliments those around him with his activity on the glass, inside scoring, and passing from the high to low posts. He is a decent vertical athlete who can make the occasional wow play but for the most part Reneau is all business and fundementals on the hardwood. With his great basketball IQ and ability to do whatever is needed for his team, Reneau tracks well as a high major all-purpose asset."
