Shooting Guard

Things may get a bit tricky at the shooting guard spot in 2021-22, but let’s just say for now the starting job is Leaky Black’s to lose. Black started in 28 of 29 contests in 2020-21, putting up 5.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.6 apg and 1.3 spg in 27.6 minutes per contest.

Black isn’t necessarily a prolific scorer at the shooting guard spot, but his presence and length at 6-foot-8 as a defender is hard not to utilize. He returns as UNC basketball’s second-leader in rebounds per contest and as ACC basketball’s 14th-best finisher in defensive rating (98.5) from a season ago.

With added names like D’Marco Dunn turning the head of new head coach Hubert Davis, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get some minutes early on to prove himself.

Dunn is a three-level scorer that doesn’t need the ball in his hands to find his points. He was quite the rebounder at Westover High by the end of his career, which should prove useful in the UNC basketball lineup.

Anthony Harris Jr. should be fully recovered from his ACL injury as well. He was a face that appeared in 16 games for the Tar Heels and gave them solid closing minutes at one point in 2020-21.
