Shooting Guard

Nahiem Alleyne is the leading name at the shooting guard spot given his confidence and knack for shooting on the perimeter. He was one of Virginia Tech basketball’s leading shooters from the perimeter, shooting 40.8 percent from behind the arc, and returns as their top 3-point marksmen after knocking down 1.9 3-pointers per contest in 2020-21.

Alleyne started in 21 of 22 games in 2020-21 while showing his continued growth at the shooting guard spot. He knocked down two or more 3-pointers in the team’s final five games of the season, including the NCAA Tournament, where he went off for a career-high 28 points, though it came in a first-round loss against Florida. He’ll be a name in the early running for ACC basketball’s Most Improved Player in 2021-22.

Hunter Cattoor could also find himself at the shooting guard slot off the bench. He returns as last year’s best 3-point shooter after shooting 43.3 percent from 3-point land after making 39 more 3-pointers to add to his career total.

He’s another name due to breakout in the Hokies lineup and he’s got the ability to play either guard spot with his size and athleticism at 6-foot-3.

Sean Pedulla is another player that can carve a role for himself in either backcourt spot. He can fill the void left by the departure of Jalen Cone and be a spark off the bench that can shoot and create.
