Arkansas Basketball: 2021-22 season preview and outlook for Razorbacks
The Razorbacks’ starting five
After putting up 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game and shooting 47% from the field as a freshman, Davis should start at one of the guard spots in Arkansas’ likely four-guard lineup. Like last year’s squad, Arkansas will have multiple players on the floor who are comfortable with the ball in their hands, another one of those will be Miami grad transfer, Chris Lykes.
Lykes is lightning quick and extremely hard to defend and over his final three seasons at Miami, the diminutive guard averaged 15.7 points and 3.1 assists. As if that wasn’t enough, Musselman also brought in two extremely versatile 6’6 swingmen who should make a huge impact.
Au’Diese Toney was Pittsburgh’s second-leading scorer last season at 14.4 per game with 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists, while the three-point shot isn’t a big part of his game he can step out, making 34% last season.
If it wasn’t for Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas, South Dakota’s Stanley Umude would’ve been the Summit League Player of the Year, leading the Coyotes in scoring (21.6) and rebounding (7). Umude has the ability, much like Toney to score inside and out having shot 35.5% from deep last season.
There will be one true forward in the lineup and that will be Williams. The 6’10 sophomore never really got in a groove, having his season interrupted by a knee injury and Covid protocols. The potential is there as he showed in the NCAA Tournament with 10 rebounds against Texas Tech and had eight points and four rebounds in 15 minutes against Baylor.
