With conference play having begun on Wednesday night for SEC Basketball, we are now approaching the mid-way point for the 2021-22 regular season. Because of this, let’s take a moment to look back at a few takeaways from the conference so far.

Defending champion Alabama appears to have an excellent shot to repeat as champions, while other teams such as Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee all are also legit SEC Championship contenders. In addition to those four likely on track to secure a Top 4 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, other teams such as LSU, Arkansas, and Florida also appear likely to headline a month of March that could realistically see anywhere from 8-10 teams within the SEC go dancing.

With the top teams and title contenders evident, let’s take a look however at a few individual honors that will be handed out at season’s end including Players of the Year and All-SEC teams. Included in this group are numerous players firmly on track to receive these honors, some of which appear to be the clear winner right now, while other award races such as All-SEC teams appear crowded.

Included in these predictions will be the following awards/honors:

  • First-Team All-SEC
  • Second-Team All-SEC
  • Freshman All-SEC
  • SEC Player of the Year
  • SEC Coach of the Year
  • SEC Freshman of the Year
  • SEC Sixth Man of the Year
  • SEC Defensive Player of the Year

So, with conference play beginning across the SEC, let’s make a few midseason predictions on what the All-SEC teams and Players of the Year may look like at season’s end.
