SEC Basketball: Midseason award predictions for 2021-22 season

First-Team All-SEC

  • Kennedy Chandler, Tennessee
  • Scotty Pippen Jr, Vanderbilt

A majority of the players predicted in the preseason to be named First-Team All-SEC are firmly on track to receive that honor in 2021-22. A group that includes multiple SEC Player of the Year candidates entering conference play, one name, in particular, that is having a career-year is reigning SEC Sixth Man of the Year JD Notae as the senior is averaging a career-high 18 PPG in a starting role for the Razorbacks.

Second-Team All-SEC

  • Jahvon Quinerly, Alabama
  • Keon Ellis, Alabama
  • Sahvir Wheeler, Kentucky
  • TyTy Washington Jr, Kentucky
  • Darius Days, LSU
  • Tari Eason, LSU
  • Kobe Brown, Missouri
  • Jarkel Joiner, Ole Miss

Names such as Quinerly and Washington are still likely on track for All-SEC caliber season’s in 2021-22, while others such as Ellis, Brown, and Joiner are all having career years for their respective teams. A few players in particular also deserve mentioning as well such as LSU forwards Tari Eason and Darius Days leading the Tigers hot start to the year, as well as Auburn guard Wendell Green Jr just missing the list, but off to a phenomenal start to the year averaging 12 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 4.6 APG.

Speaking of Auburn, don’t forget about guard Allen Flanigan either, a First-Team All-SEC caliber player, who recently returned for the Tigers, as well as center Walker Kessler.

Freshman All-SEC

  • Efton Reid, LSU
  • Daeshun Ruffin, Ole Miss
  • Devin Carter, South Carolina
  • Kennedy Chandler, Tennessee

Many names that were expected to be Freshman All-SEC in 2021-22 entering the year are still on track to receive that honor. Two names in particular however that are having impressive freshman campaign’s so far are South Carolina’s Devin Carter (9.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2 APG) and Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV (7.8 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 3.2 APG).
