SEC Basketball power rankings: Auburn rises, Arkansas starting to sink

It’s not the best conference in the nation, but the SEC is certainly among the very best of college basketball. These football schools have done a fantastic job rebuilding their basketball programs in the last half-decade. Unfortunately, Georgia is not the only team chilling the cellar, as this Missouri team has really struggled this season after a bit of a revival last year. Kobe Brown is averaging greater than 15 points per game for the Tigers, but it’s a struggle outside of him.
Missouri’s nonconference slate certainly could have been worse, scoring decent wins over SMU and Utah, but they got blown out by Florida State, Kansas, and Illinois too. The 3-point shooting on this team has been horrific, with the offense in general not exactly shining this season. That resume also includes double-digit losses to UMKC and Liberty. Fortunately, the Tigers just put together their best performance of the season, getting a wildly unexpected victory against Alabama over the weekend.
If you take a deep dive into this Missouri team under Cuonzo Martin, you can see that this is by the far the worst defensive team he’s had since arriving in Columbia five seasons ago. As if this isn’t bad enough, the offense may be even worse, though defense has been the Tigers’ calling card under Martin’s leadership.
Looking ahead, you have to wonder what exactly this Missouri team is going to do in SEC play this season, especially after pulling this upset against Alabama. We can expect to see them near the bottom of the standings, but maybe the Tigers can pull off a few more wins like this?
