Pac-12 Basketball: Takeaways from Oregon upset win over No. 3 UCLA
Richardson and Dante had major impact
Every starter for Dana Altman’s squad scored at least 10 points. Additionally, every starter on the ducks shot 33 percent or better from the floor. One starter that especially had a good game was Will Richardson. Richardson scored 16 points on 50 percent shooting. The senior was very good at shooting inside the three-point line in this match-up. Richardson shot 4 of 6 from inside the three-point line.
Finally, Will Richardson was able to make his free throws in this match-up as he made 5 of his 7 free throw shots. This percentage was on par with his free throw percentage all season, as he has shot 70 percent from the free-throw line all season. While Richardson had a nice night offensively for Oregon, he was not clutch in this game. The senior missed a game-winning three in regulation. Additionally, Richardson left UCLA a chance to tie it in OT because he missed a free throw late.
Another starter that came up huge in this victory was N’Faly Dante. Dante scored 12 points on 80 percent shooting from the floor. The junior was able to grab seven rebounds on the night. Although Dante had an impressive night, he was taken out of the game with a minute left due to his inability of making free throws.
Even though Dante has a 48 percent free throw percentage on the season, he made 66 percent of his free throws in this game, including two made free throws on a 1 on 1 late in the fourth quarter. This win for the ducks over one of the best teams in the country could be a turning point for the ducks season.
