NBA Draft 2022: 5 Big Ten basketball players improving their draft stock
6-foot-5 Johnny Davis, Guard/Wing, Wisconsin Badgers
Johnny Davis has taken Big Ten basketball by storm with the Wisconsin basketball as they’ve virtually surprised everyone with their 8-2 start in conference play as they sit atop the standings in a tie with the Fighting Illini.
Davis is a big, 6-foot-5 guard that can do it all. He can post up weaker defenders, create his shot off the bounce, rebound and light it up from deep. He’s averaging 21.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, and 1.4 spg while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and 36 percent from behind the arc
By proving he can coexist in the backcourt with senior guard Brad Davison this season, Davis has proven he can play any role put in front of him. His ability to create matchup problems and create offense on rebounds out of the net is an asset in this year’s NBA Draft class.
Davis scored the Badgers’ final six points to finish with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in their 66-60 victory over Minnesota on Sunday. While he’s virtually gone from a relative unknown into potential Big Ten Player of the Year, it should also translate into a big status change on draft board projections as well.
He’s certainly created some buzz as one of the hottest names in NCAA basketball. Look for his productive year to continue and if it does, he could find himself as a lottery projection before too long.
