North Texas Mean Green (16-4)  (9-1 CUSA)

North Texas basketball finds itself on top of the Conference USA basketball standings as one of the top defensive teams in the nation.  They rank second in NCAA basketball in scoring defense (56.0 ppg) while riding an eight-game winning streak into February.

Head coach Grant McCasland has his squad playing well led by Tylor Perry, who leads the team in scoring (14.6 ppg) and is one of their top playmakers. Two other players in their lineup, Thomas Bell and Rubin Jones, are also dishing out a team-high 3.0 apg as they’ve used an all-around team approach to the season and it’s gotten the attention of most.

They’ve split against teams in Quadrant I with a record of 1-1 and gone 3-2 against Quadrant II teams this season. They’re also1-1 against Quadrant III teams but 9-0 against Quadrant IV teams. They’re a squad that will need to go a perfect 8-0 in their final eight games or it could deter their hopes at a potential at-large bid if things go awry. For now, they’re well off the bubble and in the field of 68 as a double-digit seed.

With UAB (Feb. 19) and Louisiana Tech (Feb. 26) left on the schedule, they may need to win one or both games if they fall in the conference tournament later on down the road.
