NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 8 teams that should target 5-star guard Skyy Clark
Illinois Fighting Illini
For those who aren’t aware, a long time ago, Clark had committed to the DePaul Blue Demons. One of the coaches on the staff at the time was Tim Anderson, who is now at Illinois. So there’s a connection between the team and player that could allow the Fighting Illini to make a potential run.
There’s room also, with starting guards, Alfonso Plummer and Trent Frazier each leaving after next season. That would create discussion about Andre Curbelo, who was supposed to be the star point guard of the future. But there’s a world where Clark and Curbelo could co-exist on the court together or the Illini would have to make a decision on who to prioritize. And assuming that Kofi Cockburn doesn’t come back for another year, Clark could come in and be the focal point of the offense right away for a big program in the Big Ten.
Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks currently have a top-5 ranked recruiting class for 2022, led by five-star wings, MJ Rice and Gradey Dick. But they don’t have any backcourt players committed and with Remy Martin leaving after this season, there could be room for a point guard to join in late.
Right now, the lead guard position is a big question mark once Ochai Agbaji departs. Drake transfer Joseph Yesufu hasn’t played much and redshirt freshman DaJuan Harris has shown to be limited offensively. They very well could be looking for an upgrade but rather than trying in the portal, why not get a huge name like Clark that can come in and start on Day 1?
