Expected returnees for Notre Dame Basketball

Two players who are definitely going to be back in the starting lineup next year are guards Dane Goodwin and Cormac Ryan. Mike Brey confirmed this news on his latest radio show that the two guards would be back to take advantage of the free COVID year given by the NCAA.

This is huge news for Notre Dame with getting to pencil these two guys into the starting lineup on a daily basis. Goodwin along with Wesley was the most consistent players all year long for Notre Dame. Cormac Ryan really came into his own in the second half of the year, especially in the NCAA tournament.

Ryan put on a show in the first round against Alabama scoring a career-high 29 points. The one senior who really has not come out and said anything yet is guard Trey Wertz. We will have to wait to see if Wertz comes back next year, or goes and finishes out his career somewhere else.

Having Goodwin and Ryan back is huge because of the leadership they bring to the team as well. They will have to be bigger leaders on the court with the loss of Prentiss Hubb. Brey also announced that guard Prentiss Hubb would be moving on and not returning for a fifth year.

Prentiss Hubb had a rollercoaster-type career at Notre Dame. Hubb was often seen as a scapegoat by Irish fans when things got bad for the team. I feel it was uncalled for because he did so much for this team throughout his four years in South Bend. They may not be eye-popping stats, but Hubb had a pretty solid year for Notre Dame this past season. Hubb had his moments like every player does that makes you shake your head sometimes, but he also had some very clutch moments late in games to help Notre Dame get the victory.

The former top 100 prospect in Hubb also did a great job taking care of the ball and taking Blake Wesley under his wing and showing him the way as well. The coaching staff will need to try and fill his void through the transfer portal at the point guard position.
