Illinois Fighting Illini

This would be a homecoming for the forward who played his high school ball in Illinois. Brad Underwood could use the local reinforcements.

Andre Curbelo is in the transfer portal. Kofi Cockburn hasn’t made a decision yet, but after testing the waters last year, he seems more likely to go. Illinois doesn’t want to fall off from recent years too far, though, and shouldn’t after securing the commitment of Skyy Clark.

Underwood is building a sustainable model in Illinois and Hopkins could go a long way towards keeping the Illini near the top of the Big Ten. Playing close to home is an added benefit, of course.

DePaul Blue Demons

DePaul would mark another homecoming possibility for Hopkins. The Blue Demons are perennially one of the worst major programs in the nation, so they could use all the talent they can get.

DePaul looked good at the beginning of the season before fading badly during Big East play. If Tony Stubblefield wants to do better than the program’s recent coaches, he’ll have to turn the page quickly.

The Blue Demons could be on the upwards swing, though. Combo guard Zion Cruz is one of the best players to commit to the program in a long time. With him in the fold, DePaul could start winning a few more games. Bringing in a recruit who was even more touted in Hopkins could speed things along.
