4. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Transferring within the same conference has become more normal these days and McNeil going to one of the four best programs in the Big 12 would be interesting, especially since there’s already some familiarity. Even after losing Terrence Shannon, Bryson Williams, and a couple of other pieces, this is a roster that should be a top-25 preseason team, assuming they land a couple of other pieces.

Texas Tech already landed D’maurian Williams, a transfer from Gardner-Webb that averaged nearly 40% from three-point range. He’s more of a wing compared to McNeil, who is a shooting guard so distributing minutes shouldn’t be a big issue with them. They weren’t a great shooting team overall this past season so adding McNeil makes sense and he won’t impact them negatively on defense.

3. Louisville Cardinals

McNeil hails from the state of Kentucky (Union), which makes the Cardinals a potentially desirable spot. It also helps that Noah Locke and Dre Davis entered the transfer portal this offseason, freeing up the shooting guard spot. New coach Kenny Payne will have a completely rebuilt roster but does have the re-committments of key players such as El Ellis and Sydney Curry.

Adding McNeil would be a nice boost to the roster and gives the team a proven shooter. But similar to my concerns with Cincinnati, Louisville will need a few more pieces before they start to look like an NCAA Tournament contender. Will playing close to home be enough to shake off those concerns?
