2. Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes were one of the better three-point shooting teams in the country this past season but after losing Juston Ahrens, Jamari Wheeler, and Malaki Branham, that now becomes an area of potential weakness. They did add Wright State transfer wing Tanner Holden this past week but the shooting guard position is open for competition, with Eugene Brown and freshmen Bowen Hardman and Roddy Gayle.

From a fit standpoint, McNeil would be the ideal shooting guard and an offensive upgrade over Ahrens. The only concern would be that one of the underclassmen guards (and there are several) would overtake the Mountaineer shooter on the depth chart, just like what Branham did to Louisiana transfer Cedric Russell. Unlike other options, Ohio State does have players that can play at the two-spot so there would be some risk here, but also some high reward.

1. Indiana Hoosiers

The Hoosiers made the NCAA Tournament on the strength of star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis and veterans Race Thompson and Xavier Johnson. There was some support from the role players such as starters Miller Kopp and Parker Stewart (who transferred out) but the team certainly could use an upgrade in terms of another scorer on offense.

Next. Biggest takeaways from first week of offseason. dark

Indiana does have underclassmen guards such as Anthony Leal, Trey Galloway, Tamar Bates, and incoming freshman CJ Gunn but McNeil would have the upper hand due to his experience and proven ability at the D-I level. And assuming that Jackson-Davis returns, the Hoosiers will be good enough to compete for another spot in March Madness. And McNeil would have a large role for next season in the attempt to do so.
